The elephant circle piece drew me in because it so detailed and it had such a unique point of view. The artist is Katie Parlow, a student at MIAD and there is no name given for the piece. I believe pen or a thin tip marker was used to draw it. I thought that having the elephant be off centered and the piece being morphed gave it an abstract feel but it kept the subject still looking realistic with all the detail given. I believe that was one of the strongest points of the piece. The contrast was nice as it ranged in the piece. The artist did a good job with showing texture and movement in the artwork. The background didn't do much for me just because it looked too scattered and took away from the main subject so I though that was the least effective element of the art.
I just found this to be one so funny so that's probably what drew me in. Also, I was probably hungry at the time, so anything food would have drawn me in. But, I really liked the fact that it had a comic feel to it and had such vibrant colors, yet not that many colors were actually used. The strongest element of the design, was the humor and the composition. I thought the background was good because it let the viewer focus on the hotdog smacking the girl without it being too minimal or distracting. I also liked the angle the image is at, it is almost straight on but not quite therefore you are able to see everything a little bit better and I think it causes the piece to be more dramatic. The only thing that I didn't find to be effective was the "oh" at the top and the placement of her hand on her chest. It just seemed to take away from the image and the arm was a bit distracting to me. The artist is a MIAD student and the media was digital I believe. There was also no name to this piece either.
I felt that this was a very strong piece that I found in one of the galleries we visited. The strongest aspect of the drawing was the detail in everything and the fact that the boy is covering his face. It makes you think about the message the artist is trying to convey. The design of the drawing is very good because the subject is at a unique point of view and the contrast is well done. I think that the artist was able to use texture well throughout, especially in the hair. The background is intriging because it fades from the top and isn't distracting one bit. The least effective element of the drawing was probably the shadows on the boys chest. They just don't look right to me for some reason. The artist is Steve Lubahn and the media was mixed. The name of the drawing was echo locate.
Part Two:
So, I found this paper dress sculpture in Broadway paper and I thought it was just so cute. Maybe it's just me, but for some reason it reminds me of a funky feathery dress that I would totally buy. I probably would never wear it, but I would buy it because it is just too cool. This dress thing was just in a corner and I don't get why. It should have been displayed more because I thought it's pretty awesome that is was made completely out of paper and such.
Whenever I am down in the third ward I always see this sculpture and this time I finally took a picture of it. I just reminds me of the third ward and the craziness you can stumble across when visiting there. I like the sculpture because it's so abstract and weird, but in a good way. Whenever I see it, it reminds me that I am in a place full of art and it is literally everywhere down there which I think is pretty cool.
